LA PYRAMIDE: A celebration of dark bodies
Fiction, Feature Film - IN DEVELOPMENT

Following the groundbreaking MAMI WATA (2023) – winner of the Special Jury Prize for Cinematography at the Sundance Film Festival – director-screenwriter C.J. “Fiery” Obasi and director of photography Lílis Soares continue to expand their vision and experimentation on perspective and gaze, through diverse African and diasporic representations, building on pre-existing traditions and ancestral belief systems to offer and channel new possibilities for African cinema.
It’s a celebration! The ancient symbol of the pyramid represents duality – male (pointing up) and female (pointing down). The pyramid is the symbol of the unified aspirations of man and woman towards the divine. In La Pyramide, we will explore three stories that deal with the supernatural: from New Orleans, USA; Salvador, Brazil; and Dakar, Senegal – that transcend genre and champion a new African and diasporic narrative and perspective in cinema.
